What you will learn

The Environmental Studies major is designed for students who want to make a difference and contribute to solving current as well as future environmental challenges on a local to global scale. Solutions to such problems as climate change, pollution, and resource conservation require individuals who have a broad-based knowledge in the natural sciences, social sciences and the humanities as well as strength in a specific discipline. UNL offers a distinct program utilizing a holistic approach and a framework of sustainability. This framework recognizes the necessity of meeting current resource needs without compromising the environment and the ability of future generations to meet their needs. The Environmental Studies major provides students with a degree and the skills necessary to work across disciplines and to be competitive in the job market. Students will acquire a broad-based education in the physical, biological and social sciences and develop competency in a specific discipline. With a professional degree in environmental studies, careers are possible in Environmental Consulting, Environmental Education, Sustainable Development, Environmental Protection, Environmental Health and Safety, Public Policy, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Law, Regulatory Compliance and Global Information Systems.

The NEBRASKA difference

Student in the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources earn a Bachelors of Science in Environmental Studies.  The program is committed to our students developing 21st century skills (e.g., collaboration, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, creativity) that will be fundamental to their long-term success. Our program utilizes a holistic, interdisciplinary focus, and requires the completion of an undergraduate Environmental Studies Senior Thesis that provides a student with the opportunity to investigate and learn more about a topic or issue about which they are passionate. Environmental Studies Environmental Engagement in the Community provides students with the opportunity to help community-based clients with a challenge for which they need assistant. This provides students with experience in project management, collaboration, and exposure to the development of budgets.

Internships / Clubs
