If you would like to start the application process, read the instructions below.

Use the International application if:

  • You are not a United States citizen or do not currently hold a permanent resident authorization from the U.S. immigration service AND
  • You have never attended a post-secondary institution.

  • Complete the application:
    • Click to Apply Online (recommended) OR
    • Apply by downloading a paper application (make sure to sign and date your application if submitting a paper application)
    • Use the same ordering of names on all correspondence and documents as listed on your passport. F-1 visa holders must apply as a degree-seeking student.
  • Include the $45 application fee:
    • Online applicants may pay using Visa or MasterCard on a secure site.
    • Checks, bank drafts, or money orders should be made payable to the “University of Nebraska.” Please do not send cash. The applicant's full name must appear on the check or money order.
  • Submit original high school or secondary education transcripts or mark sheets with certificates or diploma in native language. Also, submit official literal English translations of all records, certified by the school. Photocopies of certified records cannot be used.
  • We recommend SAT test scores. Use our school code to send your test score to the University. Nebraska's school code is 6877. Visit www.collegeboard.com to learn more about the SAT examination.
  • Students whose native language is not English must furnish current (within the past two years) scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) administered by the Educational Testing Services (ETS).   • International students, including those attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, must provide evidence of adequate financial resources. You must document sources of support (personal funds or sponsoring organization or individual). Your sponsor must sign the Financial Resources Certification Form

Granting of Admissions/Forms I-20 or DS-2019. An admission decision will be made 4-6 weeks after all required documentation is received. A University of Nebraska-Lincoln letter of admission and the I-20 or DS-2019 form will be mailed to your current address as indicated on the application for admission, unless otherwise requested by you.

If you are not currently in the United States, the I-20 or DS-2019 must be taken the U.S. Embassy. If you are currently in the United States, it must be presented to UNL's International Student Adviser upon your arrival at UNL.

If you are granted a foreign student (F-1 or J-1) visa, you are required by law to attend the institution that issued the form presented at the U.S. Embassy. If you have any questions regarding your I-20 or DS-2019, please contact the UNL International Student Adviser.
