Out-of-state Freshman Scholarships

FOR FULL SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION:

  • Take the ACT or SAT on or before the December national test dates of senior year
    (entering freshmen only).
  • Submit admission materials no later than May 1.  Students should submit materials by January 15 for priority consideration.
  • Submit your Informal Personal Statement no later than January 15.
  • Individuals who wish to be considered for need based scholarships must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA, www.fafsa.gov) before April 1 of senior year.

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Out-of-state students will automatically be considered for the following merit-based scholarships by applying for admission. Qualifying students may only be awarded ONE of the following:

  • Chancellor’s Scholarship
    Students who are finalists in nationally recognized scholarship competitions (e.g. National Merit Scholarship) are eligible for consideration for full tuition coverage plus a $2,000 stipend annually (Scholarship is applicable for up to four years with three inclusive summers.)
  • George Beadle Scholarship
    $12,284 per year up to 120 credit hours or completion of degree, whichever comes first (based on 30 credit hours per year, adjusts with credit hours taken and future tuition changes). Use the online scholarship estimator to determine your eligibility for this scholarship.
  • International Baccalaureate George Beadle Scholarship
    Students enrolled and complete the IB curriculum and score a minimum of 27 on the ACT or its equivalent on the SAT are eligible for $12,284 per year up to 120 credit hours or completion of a degree, whichever happens first.
  • Nebraska Legacy Scholarship
    Must be a child of an alumnus for consideration. $12,284 or $6,142 per year up to 120 credit hours or completion of degree, whichever comes first (based on 30 credit hours per year, adjusts with credit hours taken and future tuition changes).   • Midwest Student Exchange Program Scholarship*
    Midwest Student Exchange Program (MSEP) Scholarships are awarded to academically qualified students from Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri, Kansas, North Dakota, or Wisconsin who exhibit superior academic performance. A MSEP student pays 150 percent of the institution's regular resident tuition plus any required fees. When meeting the annual renewal criteria, the scholarship is applicable for up to 120 credit hours or the completion of a bachelor's degree, whichever occurs first. This scholarship is valued at $9,160 for the 2011-2012 academic years (based on 30 credit hours per year, adjusts with credit hours taken and future tuition changes).   • Ruth Leverton Scholarship
    $8,108 per year up to 120 credit hours or completion of degree whichever comes first (based on 30 credit hours per year, adjusts with credit hours taken and future tuition changes). Use the online scholarship estimator to determine your eligibility for this scholarship.
  • Nebraska Traditions Scholarship
    Nebraska Traditions scholarships are awarded to qualified students from California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, or New Jersey who exhibit superior academic performance. $5,000 per year up to 120 credit hours or completion of degree whichever comes first.
  • Aaron Douglas Scholarship
    $3,072 per year up to 120 credit hours or completion of degree whichever comes first (based on 30 credit hours per year, adjusts with credit hours taken and future tuition changes). Use the online scholarship estimator to determine your eligibility for this scholarship.

LEADERSHIP & SPECIALTY AWARDS

The following scholarships may require an additional application. Please note application deadlines.

  • Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science & Management Scholarship
    May include the following: room (in the Kauffman Center) and board, and books (through the Honors Program Textbook Scholarship). This requires an additional application after applying for admission. Application is due November 15. Applications received after November 15 will be reviewed if space in the program is available.   • David Distinguished Scholarship
    $1,000 per year, renewable up to four years
  • Honors Program Scholarship
    A limited number of Textbook Scholarships in the amount of $250 per semester, fall and spring semesters only, for up to 120 credit hours, four years, or the completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first. This scholarship requires the completion of an additional application. Application is due November 15 (for early notification) or March 1.
  • Chancellor's Leadership Class Scholarship
    $1,000 freshman year only. Awards will be made in late February. (This scholarship requires the Informal Personal Statement.)
  • Nebraska Legends Scholarship
    $1,000 freshman year only. Awards will be made in late February. (This scholarship requires the Informal Personal Statement.)
  • University Bookstore Scholarship
    Amount varies, freshman year only. (This scholarship requires the Informal Personal Statement.)

DIVERSITY ENHANCEMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The following scholarships may require an additional application. Please note application deadlines.

Through CollegeBound Nebraska, Nebraska students are guaranteed total gift assistance equal to, or greater than, 15 credit hours of tuition each semester provided they:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1
  • Complete the financial aid process by June 1
  • Are found to be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant
