In-state Freshman Scholarships

FOR FULL SCHOLARSHIP CONSIDERATION

  • Take the ACT or SAT on or before the December national test dates of senior year (entering freshmen only).
  • Submit admission materials no later than January 15.
  • Submit your Personal Statement no later than January 15.
  • Individuals who wish to be considered for need based scholarships must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) before April 1 of senior year.

GENERAL SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Chancellor’s Scholarship: Full tuition + $2,000 stipend
    Students who are finalists in nationally recognized scholarship competitions (e.g. National Merit Scholarship) are eligible for consideration annually (Scholarship is applicable for up to four years with three inclusive summers).
  • Regents Scholarship: Full tuition
    Up to 120 credit hours inclusive of all University of Nebraska credit; including approved study abroad and Extended Education credit.
  • David Distinguished Scholarship: $3,500 per year
    Renewable up to 4 years or the completion of a Bachelor's degree, whichever comes first.
  • Canfield Scholarship: $1,000
    Freshman year only

LEADERSHIP AND SPECIALTY SCHOLARSHIPS

The following scholarships may require an additional application. Please note application deadlines.

  • Jeffrey S. Raikes School of Computer Science and Management Scholarship
    May include the following: room (in the Kauffman Center) and board, and books (through the Honors Program Textbook Scholarship). This requires an additional application after applying for admission. Application is due November 15.  Applications received after November 15 will be reviewed if space in the program is available.
  • Honors Program Scholarship: $250 per semester
    A limited number of Textbook Scholarships in the, fall and spring semesters only for up to four years, or the completion of a bachelor’s degree, whichever comes first. This scholarship requires the completion of an additional application. Application is due November 15 (early notification) or March 1.
  • College of Business Administration Honors Academy Scholarship: $2,500 stipend
    Students electing to participate in a UNL-sponsored study abroad program will receive a stipend to be put towards study abroad expenses.  This scholarship requires the completion of an additional application. Application is due November 15.  Applications received after November 15 will be reviewed if space in the program is available.
  • Chancellor's Leadership Class Scholarship: $1,000
    Freshman year only. Awards will be made in late February. (This scholarship requires the Personal Statement.)
  • Pepsi Service Scholarship: $1,000
    Freshman year only. Awards will be made in late February. (This scholarship requires the Personal Statement.)
  • Nebraska Legends Scholarship: $1,000
    Freshman year only. Awards will be made in late February. (This scholarship requires the Personal Statement.)
  • University Bookstore Scholarship: Amount varies
    Freshman year only. (This scholarship requires the Personal Statement.)

DIVERSITY ENHANCEMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

The following scholarships may require an additional application. Please note application deadlines.

  • Davis-Chambers Scholarship: $2,000 up to full direct cost of attendance
    Renewable up to 4 years. This scholarship requires an additional application due February 1. (Applicants must be a Nebraska High School graduate and a resident of Nebraska)
  • Health Sciences Scholarship: 30 credit hours of tuition a year
    The scholarship is renewable for a 2nd year of study provided the recipient completes the Program’s first year requirements and satisfies the University’s scholarship renewal requirements. This scholarship requires an additional application due February 1.
  • Native American Heritage Scholarship: $2,000 up to full direct cost of attendance
    Renewable for up to4 years. This scholarship requires an additional application due February 1.
  • Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation Scholarship: tuition & fees up to $3,600 + $500 textbook allowance per semester
    For incoming freshman students attending UNL and other public institutions in Nebraska. These funds are available to the extent that tuition, fees and books are not already covered by other grants or scholarships. Apply by February 1. Apply at: buffettscholarships.org

CollegeBound Nebraska

Through CollegeBound Nebraska, Nebraska students are guaranteed total gift assistance equal to, or greater than, 15 credit hours of tuition each semester provided they:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by April 1
  • Complete the financial aid process by June 1
  • Are found to be eligible for a Federal Pell Grant
