Textile Science integrates the development, acquisition, distribution and utilization of textiles. This option brings together the study of basic sciences and technologies, application of management principles, the perspective of history as well as the fine art of design in a rich, challenging learning environment. The department's main objective is to prepare students for successful careers in the global textile and apparel industries.
With a degree in Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design, careers and positions include Textile Testing Analyst, Product Development, Training Specialist, Quality Assurance Specialist, Quality Assurance Analyst, or Technical Sales.
The Textile Science program is a nationally-ranked, award-winning program approved by the American Collegiate Retail Association with nationally and internationally recognized faculty scholars in merchandising, textile science and apparel and textile design. Students receive honors and awards at juried design competitions, and also gain hands-on experiences through study tours, community service and internships with cooperating retailers, manufacturers and designers throughout the United States and abroad.
Montage is a student organization for all Textiles, Merchandising and Fashion Design majors. Activities at the monthly meetings include guest speakers, planning for fashion shows and gallery exhibits, fundraising, and social events that encourage close relationships between design, merchandising, and textile science majors.
Dr. Yiqi Yang is internationally-known for his work in developing textiles from such materials as cornhusks and chicken feathers.
