As an Insect Science major at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, students will have the opportunity to study the biological, environmental, and agricultural sciences as they relate to insects. Students can choose an area of specialization from the Pest Management or Science options. The Science option includes a minor in biological sciences, and can also serve as a pre-med curriculum.
Career opportunities within the Insect Science major include positions in agricultural, biological or genetic research, forensic entomology, public health, consulting (agricultural, environmental, public health, urban, food processing), state and federal government agencies, conservation and environmental biology, pharmaceutical industry, natural resources management, veterinary, medical, or graduate school, production agriculture, pest control, seed, fertilizer, and chemical research companies, agriculture or outreach education.
The Insect Science program is one of the leading undergraduate entomology programs in the country. Unique aspects of the program include credits for experiential learning, the opportunity to complete a senior thesis, study abroad opportunity for an intensive entomology course in Costa Rica, and membership in the Insect Science club.
