The Bachelor of Science in Hospitality, Restaurant & Tourism Management is jointly offered by the College of Education & Human Sciences and the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. The degree prepares individuals to serve as general managers and directors of hospitality operations by providing an excellent foundation in hospitality, leadership, and business. The program integrates hospitality marketing strategies, communications, and financial management into a curriculum focused on managing facilities and operations that provide hospitality services to the public. Students select from six emphasis areas offered through the College of Education & Human Sciences including Food and Beverage, Lodging, Convention and Meeting Planning, Human Resources, Public Relations, Journalism and Mass Communication or two emphasis areas offered by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources which include either Ecotourism or Parks and Recreation.
Career opportunities associated with this major include positions such as Food and Beverage Director, Catering Company Owner, Guest Services Manager, Wedding Planner, Cookbook Author, Convention and Visitors Bureau Manager or Food Critic.
Our program differs and is unique because of our study tours/practicum, and we are the only program in the state that offers a comprehensive hospitality management curriculum. We have nationally and internationally recognized faculty and an opportunity for International Career Advancement. Students can also participate in the Culinology® -Hospitality Management Club.
Internships include Disney World and major hotel chains. Students can also participate in the Hospitality Sales and Marketing International club on campus.
We have specialized laboratories for food preparation and sensory analysis of food and a computer lab.
