What you will learn

Two phases:

• Veterinary technician and veterinary technology
• Start the program in either phase

Veterinary technician phase:

Complete a veterinary technician Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program at an AVMA-accredited veterinary technician school. UNL does not have an AAS-degree granting program in veterinary technology on its Lincoln campus.

Pass the national veterinary technician certification examination.

Veterinary technology phase:

• Enroll at UNL in one of three options
• Transfer credits from the veterinary technician phase to UNL
• Complete BS requirements at UNL
• Earn a BS degree from UNL

Program options

• Veterinary Science Option: for students interested in going to veterinary school. Qualify to apply to any veterinary school in North America (see Pre-veterinary Medicine for more information).
• Science Option: for students interested in a career in veterinary science, but not as a veterinarian. Prepare for a career in veterinary science demanding more extensive knowledge than that obtained in the veterinary technician phase.
• Business Option: for students interested in veterinary science and management. Prepare for a career in veterinary science demanding more extensive knowledge of business and management than that obtained in the veterinary technician phase.

Become a certified veterinary technician AND earn a BS degree from UNL
