Sample Schedule of Classes
SAMPLE PROGRAM OF STUDY
Arts and Sciences General Courses: At UNL, every student has a unique schedule and a distinctive program. This sample program gives you an idea of what a typical student might take during the first two years of study.
OUTLINE OF PROGRAM OF STUDY
MAJOR COURSES
FIRST YEAR
ANTH 110-Introduction to Anthropology
Anthropology majors don't need to take ANTH 110-Introduction to Anthropology, but most find it a useful way of learning about the range of work and research that anthropologists do.
ANTH 212-Cultural
or ANTH 232-Archaeology
or ANTH 242/L-Physical
You can begin your major with at least one of the three core classes listed above.
SECOND YEAR
ANTH-Native North America
or ANTH 362-Africa
or ANTH 353-Anthropology of War
Complete your core classes and take a class in an area you find interesting, for example, one of the three topics listed above.
The SUMMER between you second and third years is an ideal time to take part in an archeological or ethnographic field school (ANTH 280/281, 9 crs).
THIRD AND FOURTH YEARS
By this time, most Anthropology majors have selected a special interest within the field and focus their classes around it.
Cultural students should be sure to take:
ANTH 773-Ecologcial Anthropology
ANTH 474-Applied Anthropology
and ANTH 477-Hunters and Gatherers.
Physical Anthropology students should take:
ANTH 442-Advance Physical
ANTH 422-Medical anthropology
as well as biology classes like Biol 388-Comparative Anatomy and Biol 243-Human Genetics.
Archaeology students should take:
ANTH 432-Archaeology Theory
ANTH 487-Research Methods
ANTH 435-Conservation Archaeology.
In their last year, Anthropology majors are encouraged to work with a faculty advisor to arrange a pre-professional internship. You should also take a class like ANTH 4XX-Contention Issues or ANTH 417-History of Anthropology as a capstone experience. You will work closely with your adviser to select the particular classes that will let you develop the skills and ability you find of greatest interest.
