PROGRAM DEFINITION
Finance is critical to all business enterprises. There are three main areas of finance: financial management deals with the allocation of financial resources within the firm; the investments area examines the task of choosing securities and investment portfolios; and financial institutions and markets study the allocation of financial capital in the national and world economy. In addition, specialized areas of study are offered in insurance and real estate.
NEBRASKA POINTS OF DISTINCTION
• Expert faculty, many of whom have written the most used texts in the field.
• Hands-on experience in investments through the management of the Cornhusker Funds
• Internship opportunities and job placement counseling
FACILITIES
• Five state-of-the-art computer labs complete with networked printers, scanners, and digital cameras are available. The labs are designed for interactive, multifunctional instruction.
• Instructional technology is used in all 32 classrooms, including teaching consoles, LCD projectors, computers, and VCRs. Many classrooms have touch-sensitive white boards and control systems. The building is equipped with a complete wireless system for internet access. Walk-up e-mail and computing stations are available throughout the building.
• The E.J. Faulkner Writing Lab is designed to teach important communication skills needed to be successful in business. Labs are available for students to videotape class presentations.
PROGRAM EXPECTATIONS (What’s expected of you as an undergraduate student)
• Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA to remain in good academic standing within the college.
• Completion of all general and specific prerequisites
• Students must have an interest in the both the detail and the broad scope of public and private financial matters.
