First-Year Admission Checklist

Submit Your Application for Admission
First-year applicants can apply to Nebraska through the Common App as early as August 1. Review the admission requirements and gather the materials you'll need to complete your academic profile, including your current high school transcript. Your application for admission also serves as your application for academic scholarships.
Check Your Application Status
Once you've applied, you will receive an email detailing how to set up your TrueYou credentials and gain access to MyRED, Nebraska's online student portal. Visit MyRED to check your application status and verify all documents have been submitted to complete your application.
Pay or Defer Your Enrollment Deposit
Reserve your spot at Nebraska by paying or deferring a $250 enrollment deposit in MyRED. Deposited students gain access to the Housing Application and Roommate Finder starting January 14, 2026, and New Student Enrollment orientation, academic advising and course enrollment processes starting May 4, 2026.
Submit the Supplemental Scholarship Application
Maximize your scholarship consideration—starting October 1, 2025, admitted students can submit the supplemental Scholarship Application in MyRED to be considered for departmental, leadership and service scholarships. The deadline for fall 2026 admitted first-year students to submit the supplemental Scholarship Application is February 1, 2026.
File the FAFSA Form
Applying for financial aid by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Form is the best way to help pay for college. The 2026-27 FAFSA Form opens October 1, 2025. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
The priority deadline to file the FAFSA Form is May 1, 2026. If an admitted student applied for admission by November 1, 2025, and files the FAFSA Form by February 1, 2026, the student will be reviewed for a comprehensive scholarship and financial aid offer on February 11, 2026.
Note: If you file the FAFSA after February 1, your initial scholarship notification may not include financial aid determined by the FAFSA. Once the FAFSA is reviewed, other financial aid can be added and viewed under the "Financial Aid" tab in MyRED.

Submit Your Housing Application
Starting January 14, 2026, students who have paid or deferred their enrollment deposit will gain access to the Housing Application and Roommate Finder in MyRED. For those who pay or defer the enrollment deposit on or after this date, access is granted within 24 hours after payment or deferral.
Complete New Student Enrollment Processes
New Student Enrollment (NSE) is a required orientation, academic advising and course enrollment process that prepares you for your transition to college. NSE processes become available to deposited students May 4, 2026.

Review the admission requirements and gather the materials you'll need to complete your academic profile, including high school and college transcripts. Your admission application also serves as your application for academic scholarships.

Deposited students will receive information about orientation registration, academic advising and course enrollment, as well as gain access to the Housing Application and Roommate Finder, once these next steps are open.

Applying for financial aid by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Form is the best way to help pay for college. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come first-served basis. For spring 2026 admission, the 2025-26 FAFSA Form is available now for you to file for the first time or update with the UNL federal school code (002565). The 2026–27 FAFSA Form opens October 1, 2025. For fall 2026 admission, the priority deadline to file is May 1, 2026. Students who qualify for the Nebraska Promise have until May 1, 2026, to file.
Complete Your Housing Application
If you are interested in living on campus, you will gain access to your Housing Application in MyRED within 24 hours of submitting your enrollment deposit.
Complete New Student Enrollment Processes
New Student Enrollment is a required online orientation, academic advising and course enrollment process that prepares you for your transition to Nebraska. Deposited students receive information about completing this process starting October 15, 2025.

International Admission Checklist

Submit Your English Proficiency Scores
Request that your official English proficiency scores be sent electronically to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Complete Your Student Visa Application
If admitted, you will receive instructions via email about obtaining your I-20 form to complete your student visa application.

Reserve your spot at Nebraska by paying a USD $250 enrollment deposit in MyRED. Afterward, you'll gain access to the Housing Application and Roommate Finder and receive New Student Enrollment information regarding orientation, academic advising and course enrollment.
Complete Your Housing Application
The Housing Application and Roommate Finder opens in MyRED October 1, 2025, for the spring 2026 term, and January 14, 2026, for the fall 2026 term for admitted students who have paid the enrollment deposit.

New Student Enrollment is a required orientation, academic advising and course enrollment process that prepares you for your transition to Nebraska. Admitted first-year students who have submitted the enrollment deposit will receive next steps starting October 15, 2025, for the spring 2026 term, and May 4, 2026, for the fall 2026 term.
Complete Health Requirements
All students must complete health requirements prior to enrollment.
Attend In-Person International Orientation Upon Arrival
Once you arrive in Lincoln, you will attend In-Person International Orientation, where you will meet other new students and connect with the campus community. Welcome to Nebraska!
Transfer International Students
If you are attending a U.S.-based educational institution (high school, community college, or college/university), ask your Designated School Official (DSO) or international advisor to transfer your Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln to obtain a new Form I-20 and maintain your F-1 US Student Visa Status.
