First-Year Admission Checklist
Fall 2024 Admission | In-state & Out-of-State
Submit Your Application for Admission
First-year applicants can apply to Nebraska through the Common App as early as August 1. Review the admission requirements and gather the materials you’ll need to complete your academic profile, including your current high school transcript. Apply for admission by November 1 to receive your scholarship notification on February 1.
Check Your Application Status
Once you’ve applied, you will receive an email detailing how to set up your TrueYou credentials and gain access to MyRED, Nebraska’s online student portal. Visit MyRED to check your application status and verify all documents have been submitted to complete your application.
Pay or Defer Your Enrollment Deposit
Reserve your spot at Nebraska by paying or deferring a $250 enrollment deposit in MyRED. Afterward, you’ll gain access to the Housing Contract and Roommate Finder on January 12 and receive New Student Enrollment information regarding Orientation, academic advising and course enrollment in April.
File the FAFSA Form
Applying for financial aid by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Form is the best way to help pay for college. Financial aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. The FAFSA Form opens in December, and the priority deadline to file is May 1. We’re here to help—contact Husker Hub if you need assistance.

The Housing Contract and Roommate Finder opens in MyRED January 12.
Complete New Student Enrollment Processes
New Student Enrollment is a required Orientation, academic advising and course enrollment process that prepares you for your transition to college. Once you’ve submitted the enrollment deposit, you’ll receive information about Orientation registration, academic advising and course enrollment in April.

Transfer Admission Checklist

International Admission Checklist

Submit Your English Proficiency Scores
Request your official English proficiency scores to be directly and electronically sent to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Complete Your Student Visa Application
After you are admitted, you will receive instructions via email about obtaining your I-20 form to complete your student visa application.
Pay Your Enrollment Deposit
Reserve your spot at Nebraska by paying a USD $250 enrollment deposit in MyRED. Afterward, you’ll gain access to the Housing Contract and Roommate Finder and receive New Student Enrollment information regarding Orientation, academic advising and course enrollment.

Complete Health Requirements
All students must complete health requirements prior to enrollment.
Attend In-Person International Orientation Upon Arrival
Welcome to Nebraska! Once you arrive in Lincoln, you will attend In-Person International Orientation, where new international students will get to know each other and connect with the campus community.
Transfer International Students
If you are attending a U.S.-based educational institution (high school, community college, or college/university), ask your Designated School Official (DSO) or international advisor to transfer your Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln to obtain a new Form I-20 and maintain your F-1 US Student Visa Status.
