Nebraska Now Policies and Procedures

In order to remain eligible for the Nebraska Now program, a student must maintain a term and cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 in all Nebraska Now courses. Students who earn at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA in Nebraska Now classes will be eligible for at least $1,000 in merit-based scholarships at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for their first year as a degree seeking student. Eligible coursework must be enrolled in and completed no later than the fall semester of a student's high school senior year and final grades must be posted by March 1st of the student's senior year to be considered for the scholarship.

All visiting students at the university are allowed to enroll in 6 credit hours per semester. Nebraska Now students taking one or more classes through the program are limited to 6 credit hours, with no exceptions and will be advised by the Nebraska Now Advisor. If a high school visiting student wishes to take a course not offered through Nebraska Now, they are welcome to do so as a regular visiting student, though the benefits of the Nebraska Now program, including the discounted tuition rate, will not apply. If a high school student chooses to take non-Nebraska Now courses, the student will be advised by an Academic Advisor in the University Explore Center and may appeal the 6 credit hour limit by contacting Explore Center staff. If a high school visiting student wishes to enroll in a combination of Nebraska Now and non-Nebraska Now courses, the student will be advised by the Nebraska Now Advisor.

If you are an international student living in the United States and studying at a domestic institution, you may participate in the Nebraska Now program; however, we will need you to send an email to admissions@unl.edu verifying that you are studying under a visa covered by your current domestic institution. The Nebraska Now program is not currently open to international students living outside of the United States.

If a Nebraska Now student chooses to enroll as a degree seeking student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the future, the student's GPA will be applied toward his/her university degree. The student will also be held to the same academic standards as all degree seeking students; therefore, Nebraska Now students will need to familiarize themselves with the policies and procedures set by the university for academic probation and dismissal procedures as well as academic appeals.

If a student is unable to maintain a term or cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 in the Nebraska Now Program, the student will be placed on university probation and will be unable to continue future enrollments in Nebraska Now. Admission from the Nebraska Now Program will be immediately withdrawn for future terms. Degree seeking admission status may also be affected.

Nebraska Now eligibility may be appealed if a student has experienced relevant extenuating circumstances which prevented academic success in the course and/or has a satisfactory plan to improve academic performance during a future term. For more information, please see the Nebraska Now Eligibility Appeal Form.

Students participating in Nebraska Now should also be aware of the financial aid policy known as Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for Financial Aid Recipients policy, which requires financial aid recipients to meet specific academic expectations in making progress towards earning a degree, in order to be eligible to receive federal, state, and certain university financial aid funds. The coursework that the Nebraska Now students attempt becomes part of their NEBRASKA academic record, and as such, once they become degree seeking students at NEBRASKA, these courses will be part of the SAP calculation each spring following their matriculation at the university. The SAP for Financial Aid Recipients policy can be viewed here: financialaid.unl.edu/satisfactory-academic-progress. For further information regarding this policy please contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, 402-472-2030.

Nebraska Now students will follow the same policies and procedures set by the university for refund or adjustment of student charges for tuition, petition for late withdrawal, and grade option appeal.
