Visiting students are not seeking a degree at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln but plan to attend for one term, generally taking 6 credit hours or less.
To Apply
Complete the online application and select "Visiting" as your type of application and pay the $45 application fee. Visiting students may attend for the spring, summer, or fall terms.
Each application is only good for one term; therefore, if you plan to attend as a visiting student for multiple terms you must apply separately for each term.
No additional documentation is needed for a visiting student application. High school and college transcripts are not required unless specifically requested.
High School Visiting
High school visiting students who are NOT participating in the Nebraska Now program may complete the visiting application online.
First-year and sophomore high school students must submit a High School Student Hour Approval form signed by their high school counselor.
If you are wanting to participate in the Nebraska Now program, please review program information and complete the Nebraska Now application online.
Additional Credit Hours
Visiting students are limited to 6 credit hours each semester. If you need to take additional credit hours, you must request and be granted approval of an override authorization by contacting an academic advisor in the Exploratory and Pre-Professional Advising Center to determine courses and the number of credit hours needed. Please email requests to explorecenter@unl.edu or call 402-472-3605.
Application Deadlines
- Summer/Fall: May 1
- Spring: December 1
Any application received after the published deadline may be placed on a waitlist. The Admissions Committee will prioritize the waitlist based upon candidates that meet Nebraska's assured admission requirements.
Note: There is no guarantee of admission for waitlist applicants.
Application Fee
There is a $45 application fee payable with a credit card or a check. If you participate in the free/reduced lunch program or are a military service member, military spouse or military dependent, you may request to waive this fee at the end of the application. Make the check payable to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and put the applicant's full name on the memo line.
Note: You do not need to pay the $45 admission fee if you have applied for undergraduate admission at UNK or UNO within the last year and submitted an application fee to either of those campuses.
Revocation of Admission and/or Degree
Admission to or a degree awarded from the University may be revoked for: Fraud; misrepresentation; violation of university standards in obtaining the degree; serious violation committed by an applicant or student prior to course enrollment, matriculation, or graduation; or other significant infractions endangering the safety and/or well-being of the university community.
